SunCoast Market Co-op’s Annual Owners’ Meeting
Tuesday, July 29th | 5:30–7:00 p.m.
Novo Brazil Brewing, Imperial Beach (535 Florence St.)
Big things are happening! Our community-owned grocery store is being built and is preparing to open soon. There’s so much to celebrate and share — and we need you to be part of it.
We invite and encourage all owners to attend this important meeting. Hear the latest updates, celebrate how far we’ve come together, and learn what’s ahead as we prepare to open our doors.
This year’s meeting will feature a special conversation about the value of cooperatives with farmer, and co-op developer, Mai Nguyen, plus fun drawings with great prizes!
Food and drinks are available for purchase from Novo.
About our Keynote Speaker: Mai-Nadine Nguyen is a farmer, cooperative developer, and social justice activist dedicated to building equitable and sustainable food systems. They grow heirloom grains in Sonoma County using agroecological methods, centering cultural resilience and climate adaptation. They bring their farming experience and over 20 years in the co-op movement, including serving as a board member of the US Federation of Worker Co-ops, to develop worker cooperative farms, agricultural marketing cooperatives, and food hubs that contribute to robust local economies. Nguyen helped pass the 2017 Farmer Equity Act–California’s first agricultural civil rights bill that ensures farmers of color and Indigenous people shape and benefit from state programs. They are a recipient of the James Beard Leadership Award, Grist 50 Award, and Berkeley Food Institute’s Changemakers title and have been featured in CNN, San Francisco Chronicle, Eater, and Patagonia.
